I haven’t been at this blogging thing long, but I was truly honored to have Hops on the Road be nominated for a Sunshine Blogger Award by Tara of Love, Wine & Sunshine. Thank you for the love lady! I’m lucky to have met you at WITS this year, and hope to see you again soon! Here are my answers to your questions:
1.Where did the name of your blog come from?
The name was inspired by a few different elements of my life. First, I love travel, which is where the ‘on the road’ part comes in. I also love craft beer and running. Those were harder for me to incorporate without making the name too long. I decided to use a word that could be associated with both: Hops. It’s a major ingredient in beer, as well as a verb used to describe activity or action.
2.How long have you been blogging for?
I started a personal blog back in 2009, but never did much with it. After a few years of fiddling around with it, I abandoned the concept and spent a year working on other projects. A little over a year ago, I decided to rebrand and relaunch my blog as Hops on the Road, and it’s been an exciting time developing the website and building the brand.
3.If I could hand you a ticket to anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
Such a tough question to answer. There are so many places I want to visit, and numerous spots I hope to return to. I think at this moment, I would say Argentina. It’s been on my list for a long time, and there’s so much I want to experience there.
4.What is your favorite social media platform? What other ones can we find you on?
I love Instagram, it’s probably the platform I use the most. You can find me there at @dayhopsontheroad. I’m also active on Twitter and Facebook. I’m on Pinterest, but I’m still working on building that profile and figuring out the best way to use it.
5. What has been your greatest struggle with your blog?
I work a full-time job, and my blog is my side gig. As a result, I don’t post as often as I’d like and I don’t have nearly the following I would like. That’s been the other struggle, driving traffic to my blog.
6. What piece of advice would you give someone just starting out in blogging?
Take the time to set up a solid website that’s clean, easy to navigate and is a reflection of your brand. There’s always that desire to rush to get the blog up and figure out the details later. It’s important to test different layouts, play with plugins and make the site exactly what you want it to be before you reveal it to everyone else.
7. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Another tough one, but I’d probably say pasta.
8. If you could have a theme song, what would it be?
I love “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. That would probably be my theme song.
9. Which person would you love to have as a fan of your blog?
Oh wow, this is a good question. I would be so blessed if Anthony Bourdain was a fan of my blog. Love him!
10. Is there a quote that you live by?
There are two quotes I live by: 1. “Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.” – Anonymous and 2. “Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and enjoy the journey.” -Babs Hoffman.
11. Where is your favorite place on the planet to either love life, drink wine or chase sunshine?
This would have to be Italy. I lived there for four months, and I’ve visited multiple times over the years. The wine is phenomenal, and the people there live their lives to the fullest.
Thanks again for the nomination, Tara!
Stay tuned for my nominations coming up in my next post.
